Citizen endorses Chet Edwards
Term Limits sounds like a good idea for some people, but really it goes against you. In Washington seniority is what’s counts. And the longer you are in Washington the more seniority you have because others are dropping out.
W. R. (Bob) Poage stayed in the office 42 years. As a result we have economic development and other things like Camp Hood that we probably would not have gotten with a one term candidate. Camp Hood is now Fort Hood…the largest Army base in the world. He worked with Frank Mayborn, Harlon Fentress and Jack Kultgen to name a few to get these things we now take for granted. Take Lake Waco as another example. After the first completion it has had two makeovers. Chet Edwards has helped secure funding for them and the parks around the lake. Waco can enjoy the walk across the dam that was not there before.
With this in mind we are endorsing Chet Edwards for another two year term. Now his seniority lets him get bills passed and do things for us, that a new representative couldn’t do.
Bill Flores is a good man and a decorated hero, but starting at the button it would take years for him to accomplish anything worthwhile for us. Chet Edwards has not purchased any political advertising from us, so that didn’t enter our decision. We think he wasted too much on those TV ads. Do you change the channel like I do when they come on?
Governor candidate Bill White has run two inserts with us. This means he knows the value of newspapers and we can go down the road together. So we are endorsing candidate White. I met him when he came here to visit the Dr Pepper Museum. Gov. Perry says we have a reserve in Texas, but at the same time he is telling all departments to cut back because we are short of money in Texas. I can vote for someone that is twisting the truth.
