City of Waco–good and bad
The city of Waco does some good things, and sometimes some dumb things.
A street near my office had a bump in it for years. I didn’t report it
because I didn’t think it would do any good. But low and behold one day
seven trunks from Lindsey Contractors came and fixed it. Thanks — it was
really dangerous because it would bounce my car around.
Then the city has made it hard for Sonny’s BYOB, trying to put it out of
business. The business was further out on Loop 340 and moved to get further
out of the city on Loop 340. This was hoping the city would leave them
But no, they wouldn’t leave them alone and continued to harass them. The
girls were dancing nude, or almost nude, which they have always done. The
police alleged prostitution was taking place. Might be but the girls can do
this on the street and don’t need the club to do that.
Henry Wright is their lawyer representing them. He feels regardless of what
is happening they need some professional legal advice. He was mayor of
Beverly Hills at one time. He says the club has installed video cameras and
other things trying to please the city.
Another problem the city has gotten themselves in, is over hiring Hahn,
Texas, to do marketing for our tourist attractions, trying to get all the
cities working together. and on the same page, Looking at it now, we feel
the city of Waco has enough staff to do what Hahn, Texas, is trying to do
and a lot cheaper. I think its about an $8000,000 contract. Their people
have been in town for about a year talking to anybody and everybody. They
are from Austin. Another thing that upsets local marketers.
During their first presentation before the city council they almost got
laughed out when they presented a new slogan. Instead of going with the one
we have made famous –a big W with a star in the middle, they presented a
new one — Texas Heartland.
Even the Tribune Herald thought it was wrong to try to go in a new
direction. Thank goodness the council people shot them down on this first
try out of the box.
Council people felt that Heartland referred to places like Kansas and
We are working our web site over to do similar marketing for Waco and our
Only we think our sites will be better because we can up date it every day
with the latest news and information. We will offer information from our
neighboring cities that have hotels or motels. The problem is Waco has most
of the attractions while a lot of the hotel properties are in neighboring
But on a weekend like this one we need everybody. Texas University is coming
to town the same time 3,000 Masons and their families will be here.
A big Santa parade and a tour of our historic homes is on the agenda.
Brian Dever is helping us market our web site features with the latest
technology we believe Waco and our suburb cities will embrace. We have to
feature the latest to stay on top of the trends.
