Eight Waco High School jazz musicians have secured spots in the TMEA All-Region Jazz Ensembles marking the highest number of students ever to be placed in the All-Region jazz bands from the school at one time. Auditions were held Tuesday, September 28, at Temple High School where 16 members of the WHS jazz program competed for seats. Jazz band director Cameron Akin is very proud that fifty-percent of his competitors now have an opportunity to perform with the other top jazz musicians in the region.

Kurt Kranz, only a freshman, placed 1st chair in the top band on guitar.
Zack Nelson placed 3rd chair in the top band on trumpet.
Andrew Wells placed 4th chair in the top band on trumpet.
Sterling Long placed 2nd chair in the 2nd band on trombone.
Emanuel Dominguez placed 2nd chair in the 2nd band on alto saxophone.
Fernando Ramirez placed 5th chair in the 2nd band on trumpet.
Zazil Pacheco placed 1st chair in the 2nd band on baritone saxophone.
Jonathan Vela placed 1st chair in the 2nd band on guitar.

Nathan Wells and Erik Kranz placed first alternate.

Zack Nelson, Andrew Wells and Kurt Kranz also qualified for All-Area and recorded auditions for the All-State Jazz Ensemble.
