“Unbelievable week for Baylor AND Waco!”
Click here for video:Baylor vs Washington @ Alamo Bowl By Editor: Bill Foster,
As we predicted: Alamo Bowl Week in San Antonio turned out to be one of the
biggest and best in history for Waco and Baylor. At the game 65,256 filled
the Valero Alamo Bowl Thursday night, Dec. 29, 2011. Over half wore green
and gold.
Millions more across the globe got to witness Heisman winner Robert GriffIn
III and his
teammates put on the best performance of their life. Opposing team
Washington State wasn’t lying down either. Every time we looked up from our
50 yard seat in the press box the lead had changed from one team to the
other.
Even after we left for the field, we really didn’t know which team would be
the final winner.
Luckily for all of us Baylor Nation fans it was Baylor 67, Washington 56.
It was the first bowl game Baylor has won since 1992 in the John Hancock
bowl game.
It was crazy. Imagine 123 points scored in a game. Sounds like a basketball
game.
I took Cullen Eubank with me to get some practical experience at covering a
game. This was the first game he had ever watched inside a dome. So he was
excited to be sitting on the 50 yard game in the press box next to sports
legend Dave Campbell and other famous writers. Behind us was other greats
like David Smoaky, ESPN radio broadcaster. Eubank’s dad went to Baylor so he
had made many games with him growing up.
John Morris, Baylor’s play by play announcer was in the break room at half,
The night before he was announcing the Baylor men’s basketball game at the
American Airline center in Dallas. Another big win in this crazy week.
In the last few seconds Pierre Jackson made it 52-54 against Mississippi
State — keeping Baylor’s record in tack.
Should Griffin stay and play for Baylor another year, or go to the pros? A
good Facebook question.
At the press conference after the game Terrance Ganaway was asked “do you
want to talk about the way to close out your career at Baylor.” He told the
crowded press room it all about Baylor as a team. Whatever Griffin wants to
do that’s what I want to do. They can take me this year and Griffin next
year.
Coach Art Briles was asked : Have your ever seen a game like this.” No I
really haven’t. One turnover can decide the game.”
So post this as one of the great games in Baylor history.
