AUSTIN, Texas—Authors and publishers descend on the Texas Capitol the
weekend of October 16 and 17 during the 15th annual Texas Book Festival. The
free, two-day event showcases more than 200 of the nation’s most
accomplished writers. All literary genres will be represented with events
including author panels, discussions, book signings, as well as local food
and music. One featured event showcases authors David Bush and Jim Parsons
as they discuss their new book Hill Country Deco: Modernistic Architecture
of Central Texas on Sunday, October 17 at the Austin Museum of Art from 2-3
p.m. Featuring an introduction by Texas Historical Commission (THC)
Executive Director Mark Wolfe, the book utilizes historic and modern
photographs to explore the sometimes overlooked architectural jewels of
central Texas.
The THC will also be present at the festival by hosting a booth
highlighting the agency’s T.R. Fehrenbach Book Award, featuring the 2009
winning book The Polio Years in Texas: Battling a Terrifying Unknown by
Heather Green Wooten. Named in honor of historian and THC Commissioner
Emeritus T.R. Fehrenbach, the award recognizes writing based on original
research that preserves, records and recounts the prehistory or history of
the state. The THC is currently accepting nominations for the 2010 award
with the deadline for submissions approaching on Dec. 31, 2010 at 5 p.m.
Books submitted for the award must have a 2010 copyright date and a minimum
print run of 200.
