PASADENA, Calif. – It’s a purple rose for TCU. The Horned Frogs defeated Wisconsin 21-19 at the 97th Rose Bowl to finish 13-0 for the first time in school history. TCU has 7,000 students — a smaller school than Baylor. TCU beat Baylor in Ft Worth this year. In fact they went all season without loosing a game They really weren’t supposed to play in this big time football game — .the daddy of all Bowl games..

The Horned Frogs led by eight points into the fourth quarter, when Wisconsin drove 77 yards to score a touchdown with two minutes remaining in the game. The Badgers attempted a two-point conversion, but Scott Tolzien’s pass was broken up by Tank Carder. Boy, that was close.

Bart Johnson recovered the onside kick, and with Waymon James’ 5-yard carry for a first down with 1:25 remaining, the Frogs were able to run out the clock for the victory.

Senior quarterback Andy Dalton’s final game was one of the best of his storied career. Dalton threw for 219 yards and had two touchdowns in the first half – one a 23-yard pass to Johnson and another four-yard run to give the Frogs’ the lead for the good. He completed 15 of 23 passes on the day. The Horned Frogs’ top-ranked defense held the Wisconsin rushing attack to 226 yards. The Badgers, co-champions of the Big Ten, finish 11-2.

The last time TCU finished undefeated was 1938, the last year the Frogs won a national title.
