For the third year in a row, McLennan County 4-H Senior Team # 1 placed first at the Star of Texas –Austin, Livestock Judging Contest. Team members were Laramie Priest of Lorena, Connor Jackson from Bosqueville, Kourtney Gardner of China Spring, and Austin Cook of Lorena. Senior team #2 placed 9th and team #3 placed 12th. Livestock judging contest provide youth an opportunity to use animal science knowledge to evaluate animals and rank them on market and breeding characteristics. The McLennan County 4-H Senior teams have been very successful in 2012, also winning the Navarro County Livestock Judging contest, placing fourth at Houston, tenth at San Antonio, and 4th at 2011 State Fair of Texas. There are 13 senior age youth that make up the 3 senior age livestock judging teams. Senior and Junior 4-H livestock judging teams will compete in the District Livestock Judging Contest on April 21 for the opportunity to compete at the 4-H State Roundup. McLennan County 4-H has qualified 5 teams for the State 4-H Livestock Judging Contest since 2008.
