Republicans upset Democrats in McLennan
Voters were angry and took it out on some incumbents. Democrats had a hard time keeping their seats. Like with Jim Dunnam and 20 year incumbent Chet Edwards. Marva Beck was declared the winner over Jimmy Dunnam after 14 years in Austin. Republican Bill Flores won over Edwards. Many people voted straight Republican we suspect. Edwards used very little newspaper advertising and wasted plenty of money on TV. Marva Beck was a heavy newspaper advertiser with us. Republican Gov. Ben Perry keeps his seat. Republican Doc Anderson keeps his seat in Austin.
The DA race was a surprise. Democrat John Segrest has been in office for 20 years but Republican Abel Reyna got people stirred up over the lack of law enforcement here. County Judge Jim Lewis coasted to a victory as did Treasurer Bill Helton. Ben Perry made an easy victory. Chang was big news again.

I too was amazed at the Republicans victory. I want to quote I heard my Mother say many times since WWII: “You Get What You Pay For” I think she meant if you are not happy with the present government; then use the power of the vote to realign the reprsentives who fail to represent the best interest of their constituents, and it seemed to work thiu time, maybe? Time will speak for itself.
