PIT BULL SPAY/NEUTER PROGRAM HELPS LOCAL PET OWNERS

Animal Birth Control Clinic to hold surgeries to improve community safety.

The Animal Birth Control Clinic is offering 50 free spay or neuter surgeries for pit bulls in the month of October.  Residents of Waco in the following zip codes qualify for the Fix-A-Bull (fixable) Program: 76704, 76707, 76708.

In 1988, the Animal Birth Control Clinic was formed to offer a low-cost alternative for the entire community to achieve a reduction in the numbers of unwanted and euthanized animals.  To promote overall health of cats and dogs, the clinic has also held reduced cost vaccination clinics each month as a community service.

Pit Bulls receiving surgeries in October will experience health and behavior benefits.  Clinic Director Carrie Kuehl says, “Preventable dog bites and other problems resulting from stray dogs will be reduced due to the reduction of hormones after the spay/neuter surgery.  Neighborhoods will be safer and pet owners will experience a calmer family pet.”

Our local shelters will benefit from the Pit Bull program by seeing fewer unwanted litters of puppies and strays roaming to reproduce.  If just 4 puppies per litter are prevented the Fix-A-Bull program will keep more than 200 unwanted dogs from an uncertain end.

Education about responsible pet ownership and spay-neuter services are also offered on the clinic hotline 776-7303 and at the monthly vaccine events

While the facility’s daily operations are financially stable, ABC Clinic is raising funds to make this Fix-A-Bull incentive program possible for pet owners.  We are hoping 50 individuals will write a $50 check to cover the costs of Fix-A-Bull.

Included in the free surgery is the distemper/parvo vaccine, microchip, head cone, and post-op pain medications.  Appointments for surgery are required and can be made by calling 254-776-7303 or completing the Online Appointment Request form at www.animalbirthcontrol.org.

The community spay/neuter facility is located at 3238 Clay Avenue, just off Valley Mills Drive.  Vaccinations are also available every Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. without an appointment.
