FREE- Harlem Globetrotter, BLENDA RODRIGUEZ will be at the Waco Citizen office (1020 N 25th St.) on Friday the 20th at 4:30 PM. Come see some of the tricks he does with the basketball. All are invited.
The Harlem Globetrotter will be at the Baylor Ferrel Center, Friday, 1-27-2012 at 7PM.

The outstanding rookies include Paul “Tiny” Sturgess, the world’s tallest pro basketball player at 7-8, Jonte “Too Tall” Hall, the shortest Globetrotter ever at 5-2, and Fatima “TNT” Maddox of Temple University, the team’s first female player since 1993 and ninth female in team history.

The new Globetrotters also feature the top three finishers from the 2011 College Slam Dunk Contest, including the reigning champ Jacob “Hops” Tucker. At 5-10, Tucker sports a 50-inch vertical leap, and his YouTube videos have garnered well over four million views. Tucker joins slam dunk runner-up John “Jet” Williams of UNC-Asheville and semifinalist Darnell “Spider” Wilks of the University of Cincinnati.

The 2012 rookie class has a total of three seven-footers including 7-4 Jermaine “Stretch” Middleton, the third-tallest player in team history, and 7-foot Anthony “Biggie” McClain. At 7-8, Sturgess becomes the tallest Globetrotter ever after a career at Mountain State University (W.Va.). He is the 19th internationally born player in team history, hailing from Loughborough, England.

“The Globetrotters are excited to welcome a new generation of stars to carry on the storied tradition of the world’s most entertaining basketball team,” said Globetrotters CEO Kurt Schneider. “This year’s rookie class features some of the most talented and promising players from across the world.”

10 – BLENDA RODRIGUEZ
Guard * 5th Season * 5-8, 165

Blenda Rodriguez first picked up a basketball because he wanted to do everything his big
brother, Elvis, did, and he’s never looked back.
Date of Birth: July 25, Hometown: Manhattan, New York
College: Bergen Community College (N.J.) ‘01
Blenda was also influenced greatly by the Globetrotters and another ball handling marvel, Pistol
Pete Maravich. “The tricks the ‘Trotters and Pistol Pete did were unreal to me; I didn’t think those
things were possible.”
His passion for basketball led him to create his own ball handling show that he performed in NBA
arenas and schools, which took him throughout the U.S., London, and Japan. Blenda was rated
th the number one ball handler in 2007 at a StreetGodz event freestyle battle, where he competed
against the top eight ball handling free-stylists from New York, California, Illinois, and Virginia.
Blenda was also featured in the DVDs “One Love True Balling-Volume 2” and “One Love Pure
Heat-Volume 3,” with other basketball stars like Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, LeBron James,
Carmelo Anthony, and more. The Globetrotters’ scouting staff discovered his incredible skills, and
after a tryout, Blenda became a member of the most famous basketball team on the planet.
Blenda also enjoys martial arts and studies Chinese boxing. The discipline and hand-eye
coordination translate seamlessly to his ball handling prowess.
A fan of the New York Knicks, Blenda has had his share of awesome experiences in the Knicks’
home arena, Madison Square Garden. Prior to joining the Globetrotters, he performed some ball
handling at half-time of a Knicks’ game, and in February 2008, he had the honor of playing in the
Globetrotters’ game at Madison Square Garden the night Globetrotters Legend Curly Neal had his
jersey number retired. Blenda joined his teammates at mid-court to honor the dribbling master, as
Curly’s jersey was raised to the rafters of the world’s most famous arena.
With Blenda’s ball handling expertise and lively personality, someday he may have the same
honor bestowed upon him.
