Caritas of Waco has slated November 8th for the opening of its new thrift store at 3116 Franklin Avenue. The store will be operated in conjunction with the “Ladies of Charity” and will replace the store that has been located in the main Caritas facility at 300 South 15th Street since 2003. The new store’s hours of operation will be 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday. It will feature men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, furniture, household items and a variety of knick-knacks that will be of interest to shoppers.

Ribbon cutting for the new store will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 10th.

“We’re excited about the opening of this store,” said Buddy Edwards, Executive Director of Caritas. “We wanted a location that would be more accessible to the community but yet close enough to Caritas so that clients needing help with clothing or other items would not be inconvenienced,” Edwards added.

Donations of useable items that can be sold in the store are also accepted at the new location.

Relocation of the store also is part of the plans for the renovation of the Caritas facility at 300 South 15th. The space previously occupied by the thrift store will be used for repositioning of the main entrance into Caritas, relocation of the waiting room and interviewer office areas and expansion of the food pantry. Caritas has been conducting a fundraising effort for the renovation and hopes to begin construction on the project in 2012.

Caritas has a long-standing relationship with the Ladies of Charity in the operation of the thrift store. LOC volunteers play an important role in helping carry out work activities necessary for the store operations. This relationship will be carried into the new facility.
