The Ninth Annual Waco Cultural Arts Fest once again brought the sounds of
live music, laughter, and excited children to Indian Spring Park for two and
a half days of free fun, thanks to the generous support of corporate,
individual and foundation sponsors. The weather was almost perfect Just a
little warm. Most of the events are aimed at children’s.
Last year’s 2011 festival was record-breaking. Over 18,000 children, adults
and artists came together on the banks of the Brazos River in Waco. They
created 4000 paintings, used 30 gallons of paint, 250 lbs. of clay, 10
gallons of glue, and lots of other “art stuff”. Over 300 young performers
and professional musicians electrified two stages and thrilled audiences
with their amazing performances.
We are extremely thankful to all those that make the festival possible from
the tireless efforts of over 450 volunteers to the generous contributions of
our sponsors. And thanks to our giving community, it was all FREE, said
Doreen Ravencroft. who puts the event together.
The Richard Thomas OPEN MIC NIGHT on Friday 21st September opened the
festival on the main concert stage in the Indian Spring Park Amphitheatre.
Vitera returned to the main concert stage Saturday evening with a stellar
line up. Sunday brought State of Texas Artist Sara Hickman to the
mainstage.
Festival goers were shopping for original paintings, drawings, fiber arts,
jewelry, ceramics, photography and more at the juried artists market.
Expanding this year WordFest/Poetry Slam hosted by national slam poet
Michael Guinn, included workshops and an authors’ panel.
NEW this year: {254}dance-festival. Contemporary dance is in Texas!
Contemporary dance is happening all over Texas! There is an exciting and
growing community of artists with interesting ideas and fantastic execution.
There are major “dance festivals” happening all over the state in places
such as: Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Houston, College Station, NOW WACO.
