2011 San Antonio Livestock Judging Contest

On February 20, McLennan County 4-H Livestock Judging teams traveled to San Antonio to participate in the 2011 San Antonio Livestock Judging Contest.  The county was represented by 3 Senior teams and 2 Junior Teams.  The youth judge 8 classes of livestock and answer carcass related questions to vie for scholarships, banners and ribbons, as well as the livestock trailer that is awarded to the Champion Senior Team. 

The McLennan County Senior team of Austin Cook of Lorena, Brant Embry of Riesel, Laramie Priest of Lorena, and Dalton Meurer of West, scored 1427 points to place first in the contest which included 236 teams.  Two members of this team tied, as Dalton Meurer won the tie breaker to place fourth and Laramie Priest placed fifth.  The team claimed the Championship Banners and the Livestock Trailer.  The next competition for the judging teams will be the Houston Livestock Show.  Livestock judging coaches are McLennan County Extension Agents Shane McLellan and Sarah Chudalla.
